US Airways Increases Baggage Fees;
US Airways and Continental Add Second Transatlantic Bag Fee
Effective for tickets issued on or after Aug. 26, 2009 for travel on or after Oct. 7, 2009, US Airways will increase its current checked baggage fees by $5 and add a new transatlantic second bag fee. For all travel, except transatlantic, the first checked bag will be $20 if checked in and prepaid online or $25 if checked in at the airport. The second bag fee will be $30 if checked in and prepaid online or $35 if checked in at the airport. Each additional bag after two bags will remain at $100 per bag. For transatlantic travel, US Air will begin collecting a second bag fee of $50 if checked in and prepaid online or $55 if checked in at the airport. The first checked bag on transatlantic flights will remain free. Full details can be found online.
Continental Airlines also announced that, effective for transatlantic tickets issued on or after Aug. 27, 2009 for travel on or after Sept. 15, 2009, it will add a second bag fee of $45 if checked in and prepaid online or $50 if checked in at the airport. The first checked bag on transatlantic flights will remain free. Full details can be found online.
